In more favorable times the pre owned market was encouraging across
the full Aynsley range of products. Twenty years ago value was gained
by the majority of pieces. Retailers with limited stocks, created difficulties
in availability.
Today only a select few have reached high values e.g. the Butterfly
cups produced in the 1930-40 reach £70 per duo at auction. The
telephone also in the £50's and 70's
Tableware especially tea sets have not only devalued but there is small
market to supply.
More high street retailers are closing down. Market traders are moving
away from china products.

What has gone wrong?
Everything points to four key areas
1) Entertaining - traditionally the cup and saucer or the best set came
out for guests and visitors. Today this has been replaced by the mug.
A major trend has changed. Less entertaining is now experienced.
2) Cheap imports - This would be the most obvious reason but in fact
the decline has also been felt with imported goods.
3) Customers do not change their tableware in fact on average every 6
to 10 years. Damaged and non matching tableware is more often used until
broken. Cracked and chipped they are still used.
4) Ornaments are less desirable in modern homes
Therefore only the hard core collectors are keeping the industry going.
However, collectors are in decline.
UK CHINA DIRECT continues to purchase some ranges.
Tableware and teasets are no longer accepted. Large giftware collections
only when there is a demand.
Please register your collections so that when a request is made for
your items we can arrange payment.
We currently have a demand for Edwardian Garden kitchen and Wild Tudor
Portland tableware.
